Despite its growing popularity, subsistence creative mode faces criticism from purists on both sides. Survival purists argue that any reduction in difficulty diminishes achievement, claiming that "if you're not risking everything, you're not really surviving." Since the developer has yet to implement an official mode, the community built its own. The most popular mod on the Subsistence Nexus Mods page is essentially a "simulated creative mode." The mod description explicitly states: "This save is for those who enjoy the building aspect of the game and would prefer to be spared the grind... it's my attempt at simulating a 'Creative Mode'".
The concept of "procedural rhetoric" from game studies might add depth - how game rules produce meaning. But keep it accessible. The idea of rewarding work without frustrating risk is key.
